batticaloa-aA protest in support of people of  Kepapilavu in Mullaitivu engaged in reclaiming their lands organized by the people was held at Opposite of Gandhi Park, Batticaloa yesterday (12).

Those affected in Mullaitivu are suffered in cold and in the heat from January 31. They have been deprived of their lands from 2009 when the Mullaitivu incident took place.

A66A9222The students who passed the Year 5 Scholarship 2016 were awarded by  98 batch old Boys of Methodist Central College, Batticaloa on 14th November 2016.

This event was co-coordinated by Dr. Navaratnam Mowleeson (OBA-Vice President, MCC), Mr.A.R.M. Nafeel, Mr.Dhusendra Wimalanathan (OBA,UK-Assistant Secretary) who are from the 98 Batch of this school.  Mr. P.Vimalraj, Principal, and Vice Principal R.Basker also presented at this event. 28 students were Awarded with token of appreciation while the teachers also appreciated by gifts for their valuable involvement of this victory of students.

The parents and members of 98 Batch, Teachers and well-wishers were attended at this occasion. Vote of thanks given by Mrs. Sitsabeshan, Teacher, attached to MCC.

Subsequent to this event a donation of Mattern was handed over to Eng.  Y.Gobinath, President, Centralite Sports Club of MCC by 98 batch of MCC.

Batticaloa St. Cecilia’s Western Music Unit  with ‘All Island Best Performance Award’The ‘Cecilian Cantabile’ – The English Choir of St. Cecilia’s Girls’ College, Batticaloa merged with the most prestigious title of “All Island Best Performance Award’ at the Sri Lanka Festival for the Performing Arts after securing the All Island Winner Trophy at the Final stage.

Their rendition of the world famous musical ‘Let it Go..’ from the Frozen was one of a kind and grabbed the attention of the adjudicator Ms. Elizabeth Childs, Chief Guest, Ms. Allison Walkermore Croft and many others as they staged unique vocal performance and  they made it snow with their strategic staging techniques.

The primary choir, the Brass wind Quartet, the classical choir and an Individual Clarinet Performanceof St. Cecilia’s Girls’ Collegealso managed to secure the title of “All Island Winners“ at the festival for which the Queen of England is the patron. All of these performances were well trained and mentored by Mrs. Niranjana Jeyaraj, the Teacher In-Charge for Western Music and Ms. Nayantara Jeyaraj.
