A dead body was recovered from Urani area, Batticaloa district

Yesterday afternoon police recovered a body in a dilapidated land from Urani area in Batticaloa District.

The dead body was recovered from a deserted bathroom in located in the dilapidated land in Urani junction of Batticaloa at 1:30 pm yesterday. The body was identified to be of a male.

So far the body which was decompose and stinky has not be identified. Due to the bad smell the local people  informed the police on this dead body.

The police is investigating on this case.

Sri Lanka’s ruling United National Party (UNP) today signed a collective agreement with the Democratic Party (DP) led by former Army Commander Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka at Temple Trees in Colombo.

The agreement was signed by Fonseka as the leader of the Democratic Party and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe as the UNP leader.

The two leaders exchanged agreements for the Democratic Party to join the United National Front (UNF), the coalition led by the UNP.

The relevant gazette has been issued by the Presidential Secretary yesterday. According to the new gazette bank accounts and assets of the people who are being investigated can be checked without prior approval.

State education minister V.Radhakrishnan said that there are many drawbacks in the beautiful Eastern province.

The police had arrested a 50-year-old woman today (02) with 70 gold biscuits worth nearly Rs 40 million, police spokesman ASP Ruwan Gunasekara stated. The woman, a resident of Chavakachcheri had arrived from Madaval, Jaffna in a van at around 4.00am.

She had been arrested upon information received by the Jaffna SSP regarding the gold, near the Sangani Railway Station in Chavakachcheri, Jaffna.

Police had found 70 gold biscuits, each valued at Rs 562,000, in her possession and therefore the total gold is estimated to be worth Rs. 39,340,000.

There will be a boycott against 68th Independence day of Srilanka in Batticaloa District. The relatives of disappeared during the war have decided to do a boycott on Thursday for resisting Srilanka’s independence day.

The conveners say that the boycott will be launched at 10 a.m on coming Thursday. It will be held near Batticaloa Kanthy Park.

The protesters will wear black bands to show their resistance against Srilanka’s 68th independence day.

People have complained on selling red colored dye rice in the markets

IMG_20160201_090724People have complained that Red colored dye rice is being sold in the upcountry and estate areas. This kind of red dye rice is being sold in the shops of Upcountry areas.

The affected people have requested to stop selling this kind of unhygienic rice. The packs of rice which are purchased from Kalmunai, Samanthurai, Amparai and Batticaloa are adulterated.

People have requested Consumer protection authorities to make raids in the markets in order to get the samples of rice. By doing it, authorities can find the truth.

People should also be aware of these adulteration food items when they purchase.
